The Top Team
Yet to capture a win after seven matches since the start of the season, Omiya Ardija’s struggling top team played Gamba Osaka in Match 8, adding another devastating 0-6 loss. They celebrated their first win of the season with a 1-0 score in Match 9 against their Saitama rival, Urawa Reds. Though defeated 0-1 by Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo in Match 10, they beat Vegalta Sendai 2-1 in the next match and moved up from the bottom of the J1 League standings, only to drop to the bottom again after a 0-3 loss to Cerezo Osaka in Match 12.
The top team also played in the 2017 J.League YBC Levain Cup, which kicked off on April 12. After four matches and a record of 2 losses, 2 ties and no wins, Omiya Ardija’s hope to advance to the final stage has faded away.
