The Top Team
Omiya Ardija’s top team gained a 2-1 victory over Avispa Fukuoka in Match 6 of the season, but lost two consecutive matches, Match 7 to Matsumoto Yamaga FC and Match 8 to Renofa Yamaguchi FC, and drew 1-1 with Fagiano Okayama in Match 9. They had a three-match winning streak from Match 10, defeating Albirex Niigata, Tokyo Verdy and Oita Trinita, but finished Match 13 to 16 with 1 win, 2 losses and 1 draw. After 16 matches into the season, Omiya stands at 12th place in J2 with 6 wins, 7 losses and 3 draws.
Masahito Ono, a midfielder who currently plays for Meiji University, will be joining Omiya Ardija from the 2019 season. Ono has come up through Omiya’s junior, junior youth and youth teams, and he was selected to Japan’s U-17 national team in 2012 and 2013.
The Omiya Ardija youth team participating in the Prince Takamado Trophy JFA U-18 Football Prince League 2018 Kanto defeated Toko Gakuen High School in Match 3, gaining their second victory. However, they drew 2-2 with Tokyo Verdy Youth in Match 4, and lost 1-2 to Kawasaki Frontale U-18 in Match 5.
Ardija’s junior youth team lost three matches in a row to Kashima Antlers Junior Youth, Yokohama FC Jr.Youth and F.C. Tokyo U-15 Musashi in the Kanto Youth Football League (U-15). After ten matches, they are at 2 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw.
Meanwhile, Omiya Junior took part in Chibirinpic 2018 and finished the preliminary round with two wins. They went up against Regista FC in the semifinal and lost 0-1, finishing in third place.
On June 16, when Omiya’s top team plays Match 19 against Mito Hollyhock, fifth and sixth grade students from Ardija’s soccer school will have a chance to play in a friendly match and watch the top team’s match afterwards. 40 students will be invited to participate.
Omiya Ardija will celebrate the club’s 20th anniversary on December 4 this year. To commemorate the anniversary, the team will play six home matches between Match 23 (against Oita Trinita) and Match 33 (against FC Machida Zelvia) wearing a special 20th anniversary uniform. The uniform design will be announced in the first half of June, and a replica uniform will go on sale. In addition, on September 24 a special 20th anniversary match will be organized between former players of Omiya Ardija and Urawa Reds.
Matches 15 (against FC Gifu) and 17 (against Kamatamare Sanuki) are designated as the “Omiya Train Series” to commemorate the renewal of THE RAILWAY MUSEUM in Omiya.
Omiya Ardija participated in the “25th Fujin-no-Mori Tree Planting Event” held on April 29 at Miyako City’s Taro area in Iwate Prefecture. Some 1,000 quercus serrata seedlings were planted. Proceeds from recycling PET bottle caps were used to support the tree planting activity.
On May 6 and 7, the “NTT Vietnam Presents: Omiya Ardija Football Coaching School in Vietnam” was held as part of NTT Vietnam’s support activities. Ardija’s U-12 coach, Shingo Ito, coached about 30 kids who participated in the event and shared the fun of playing football.
